United States of America was a decision of the Supreme Court of the United States that upheld the internment of Japanese-Americans from the West Coast Military Area into concentration camps during World War II. Fred Korematsu was convicted for violating the military order that mandated his internment. This Supreme Court case upheld his conviction, and thus allowed the forcible relocation of American citizens to concentration camps solely on the basis of race. Korematsu’s conviction was voided in 1983 on the grounds that Solicitor General Charles H. Fahy had suppressed a report from the Office of Naval Intelligence which stated there was no evidence that Japanese-Americans were acting as spies for Japan.
